White Supremacists Spit On African American Monument At UNC Chapel Hill Campus
White supremacists converged on the Unsung Founders Memorial, a monument to free and enslaved African Americans who contributed to the construction and establishment of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Thomas May, a prominent white supremacist and a rioter at the January 6 Capitol Insurrection, waved a Confederate flag and spewed racist rhetoric at the UNC Chapel Hill memorial. May said he was displaying the Confederate flag to let people know “who’s the boss.” He laughed when he gestured with a whipping motion and expressed his desire to enslave others.
