Experience a dynamic evening of dance at the 2025 Faculty Dance Concert, January 24 and 25 at the Anne R. Belk Theater in Robinson Hall. Department of Dance faculty Audrey Baran, Kaustavi Sarkar, and Alyah Baker present diverse pieces with guest performers.
Alyah Baker presents a work-in-progress solo, starshine and clay, inspired by the poetry of Lucille Clifton and the Afrofuturist soundscapes of Meshell Ndegeocello.
Kaustavi Sarkar presents two works rooted in Odissi classical Indian dance; Spacing Time, a duet inspired by the infinite edges of a circle, and Straight, questioning symmetry and restraint, using the freedom of the dancing body as a metaphor for breaking boundaries in both movement and thought.
Audrey Baran presents two pieces set to local music. Tumbleweeds, created with Modern Moxie, reimagines empowered futures, while Blood of Fools, a collaboration with Elonzo Wesley, responds to the urgent crisis of school shootings.
