Queens University Field Hockey Earns Royals Service Award
The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team earned the Royals Service Award for the month of December, the athletic communications office announced today.
The team’s dedication to giving back to the community was displayed heavily, as 10 of its members actively participated in volunteer opportunities throughout the month. Collectively, the team logged 27 hours of validated service, achieving an impressive Team Impact Score of 69.
A major highlight of their service was their involvement with the YWCA (The Young Women’s Christian Association) where team members assisted with after-school crafts and care programs. These initiatives, focused on empowering youth and fostering creativity, accounted for over eight hours of their volunteer contributions.
The team also partnered with local organizations such as Rockville Basketball, volunteering as youth basketball coaches to encourage healthy lifestyles and teamwork among young athletes. This activity contributed an additional five hours of impactful service.
Overall, the women’s field hockey team attended 17 commitments, covering various causes, including children and youth services and community enrichment programs — making a difference beyond the field.
ABOUT THE ROYALS SERVICE AWARD
In the past, Queens Athletics has presented an annual Royal Service Award to individual student-athletes or teams who have gone above and beyond to help improve the Queens community. Criteria for this award include acts of community engagement that are purposeful, progressive, deliberate, intentional, and impactful to the Queens campus and the greater community.
Honoring Queens student-athletes with a monthly award in addition to the annual award will strengthen the support of the University’s motto, “Not to be served, but to serve.”
