Jill Sexton has been named dean of the J. Murrey Atkins Library, effective March 15. Sexton joins UNC Charlotte from North Carolina State University Libraries, where she is the associate director for digital and organizational strategy.

Sexton’s two-decade career in library services includes research service development, strategic planning, technology strategy and major facility projects. She also developed productive partnerships across university units and worked on interdisciplinary teams successfully launching innovative university-level services that addressed evolving needs of the institution.

“As we continue our progress toward becoming a top-tier research university, I am confident in her ability to guide the Atkins Library in its work as an essential partner in teaching, learning, research, outreach and student success at UNC Charlotte,” said Jennifer Troyer, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.

At NC State University, Sexton played a pivotal role in leading a multimillion-dollar esports initiative, collaborating on the university’s information technology governance structure and participating in various strategic projects. She also co-founded the Women in Tech resource employee group, dedicated to advancing women in information technology through advocacy, mentoring, networking and staff development programs.

“I am thrilled to join UNC Charlotte as the next dean of the Atkins Library,” said Sexton. “I am excited to connect with the campus community to build on the strong foundation of library services that center student success, research and innovation, and community engagement at the University.”

Sexton earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Rowan College of New Jersey and a Master of Science in Information Science from UNC-Chapel Hill.
