Queens University Charlotte Swimmers Earn ASUN Honors
The Queens University of Charlotte men’s & women’s swimming program landed a pair of Royals on the ASUN Weekly Honors list for their performances in week five, as officially announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon. Matej Dusa was named the ASUN Men’s Swimmer of the Week while Danielle Melilli was named ASUN Women’s Swimmer of the Week.
“Both Danielle & Matej stepped up big versus SEC rival South Carolina,” Associate Athletic Director of Creative Services & Director of Swimming Jeff Dugdale said. “Both led their teams with season-best times. Their leadership has been key to our success thus far.”
In the men’s team’s victory over South Carolina on Saturday night, Dusa swam an ASUN conference record time of 19.50 in the Men’s 50 Free to take the crown. The veteran swimmer from Bratislava, Slovakia also claimed the 100-yard Free event with a 44.10 time, and was a crucial part of the 1:20.75 winning finish in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay event.
Joining Dusa is other veteran swimmer Melilli, who swam two ASUN conference-best times over the weekend of 23.13 and 50.62 in the Women’s 50-Yard and 100-Yard Free events, respectively. The Douglasville, Ga. native also played a role in the winning time of 1:33.88 in the 200-Yard Freestyle Medley event against South Carolina that also sits as an ASUN-record time as of Oct. 20.
The honors mark the second ASUN award of the season for both Dusa and Melilli.
