Queens University Student-Athletes Make History With Fall Term GPA

Queens University of Charlotte student-athletes posted a 3.44 GPA during the 2024 fall semester, the second-highest fall GPA in program history. Just a season ago, the Royals posted a 3.45 GPA to set a new benchmark for the term.

“I am continuously amazed by the tremendous work our student-athletes do in the classroom each semester,” Queens Director of Athletics Cherie Swarthout commented. “This fall, we once again made history by recording the second-best fall-term GPA after recording a 3.45 last fall. The quality of work done by our student-athletes is a testament to the intentional efforts put forth in our strategic plan to build a robust learning environment with lots of support. The leadership provided by our director of athletic academic success, Tiffany Britten, and her team has been nothing short of impressive. I would also like to acknowledge our head coaches for continuing to make high performance inside the classroom a strategic priority. As we head into the spring semester of our third year of the Division I reclassification process, we will continue our work in building a department for the Royals that ensures they have the necessary tools to succeed academically and athletically.”

Women’s cross country recorded the highest team GPA for the semester, 3.84, while men’s tennis ranked second with 3.77. The women’s NCAA triathlon team was third with 3.73, and women’s golf followed with 3.72. Women’s swimming wrapped up the top five after posting a 3.71 GPA. Additionally, women’s basketball improved most in the fall after increasing their team GPA to 3.43.

Queens Athletics also saw 99 student-athletes record 4.0s while 144 student-athletes recorded between a 3.75 and 3.99 GPA. A total of 413 recorded a 3.3 or higher. Each group of student-athletes is now eligible to become a member of the Athletic Royal Society, Athletic Gold Standard, or the Royals Athletic Director’s Honor Roll pending their spring academic performance.

This semester’s performance follows a 2023-2024 season that saw the Royals record a 3.45 GPA, the highest in program history. The Royals have completed 13 consecutive seasons with a department GPA of or above 3.0.
