Female Students Pressure Themselves To Be In Romantic Relationships Says WSSU Expert

Dr. Naomi Hall-Byers, professor of psychological sciences, believes that the idea that relationships have to be experienced in a particular way is dangerous.

“Emphasizing certain types of relationships during this time of year is disheartening,” says Hall-Byers. “College students have so many other types of relationships to celebrate, so focusing only on romantic ones as the ‘gold star’ ostracizes people who are happy in other types of relationships.”

Hall-Byers believes that female students put undue pressure on themselves to be in romantic relationships and discount the importance of their platonic relationships.
