UNC Charlotte Gets A New Name

Recognizing itself as “the fastest growing university in the UNC system,” the powers that influence branding and visual standards at UNC Charlotte have decided that an alternate name, for casual, less informal occasions, should be used to reflect “the forward-thinking and ground-breaking university” it has become.

But don’t discard “UNC Charlotte” entirely. In a formal context i.e. “when referencing the University in publications, articles, media releases, official university communications”: use “UNC Charlotte” — however in a less formal context i.e. “when referencing the University in conversation or quoted text within a written article, social media, on promotional materials or when referring to Athletics”: use “Charlotte.”
