Charlotte Standout Ella Chancey Named Player Of The Week
After a monster weekend at the plate, Charlotte infielder Ella Chancey has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Chancey hit .429 (6-for-14) with two home runs, eight RBI, and a 1.000 slugging percentage across four games. She had a two-hit, two-RBI performance in Friday’s series-opening win over UAB. On Saturday, the junior followed up by driving in four runs and finishing a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with a homer.
She capped off the performance on Sunday with a clutch two-run blast in the seventh inning as Charlotte rallied for a 4-1 victory over UAB to sweep the series.
Sam Gress was dominant in the circle, pitching to the tune of a 0.64 ERA across three appearances. She struck out seven batters in 11 frames, holding opponents to a .108 batting average. On Saturday, the Harrisburg, Pa. native tossed five innings of one-run ball to earn the win. She followed up with a dominant performance on Sunday, going four scoreless in relief and allowing just one hit.
Chancey has now been named AAC Player of the Week three times this season. It is the fifth time a Niner has picked up Player or Pitcher of the Week honors.
