American Athletic Conference Honors Charlotte Women’s Lacrosse Athletes

The American Athletic Conference has recognized three 49ers for their impressive performances in Charlotte Women’s Lacrosse‘s dominant 19-4 win over Radford on Saturday (Feb. 22). Graduate student Rylee Dockery was honored as the AAC Defensive Player of the Week, junior Katie Ling was named AAC Goalkeeper of the Week, and attacker Katie Gorski earned Freshman of the Week honors, as announced Monday (Feb. 24) afternoon.

Against Radford, Gorski led all scorers with five goals, setting a new program record in the process. The Catonsville, Md., native scored three goals in the third quarter as Charlotte outscored the Highlanders 7-1 in the period. The freshman finished with six points, tied for the game-high. Gorski is third on the team with 12 points for the season.

Ling also set a new program record, tallying 13 saves and picking up a game-high six ground balls versus Radford. The Springboro, Ohio, native earned seven saves in the second quarter, helping the 49ers build a 9-1 halftime lead. Ling also made saves on three Highlander free-position shots. With 20 total saves and 18 goals allowed this season, Ling now leads The American with a .526 save percentage.

As part of a Charlotte defense that allowed just four goals and allowed only 24 shots to Radford, Dockery earned defensive player of the week honors. The Queen Creek, Ariz., native finished the game with three ground balls, three draw controls, and a caused turnover. Dockery is third on the team with nine total ground balls and nine draw controls this season.

The 49ers are back in action with two games this week. Charlotte will travel to Rock Hill, S.C., to face Winthrop on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 4 p.m., before taking on crosstown rival Davidson on Saturday, March 1, at American Legion Memorial Stadium.
