JCSU Becomes The First HBCU To Win The NCICU Ethics Bowl
Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU) made history by becoming the first HBCU to win the NCICU Ethics Bowl, held February 6–7, 2026, in Raleigh, NC. The team competed against other North Carolina independent colleges, tackling cases focused on “The Ethics of Leadership,” including scenarios on corporate responsibility, international sports, and public education.
The competition focuses on collaborative, ethical analysis of real-world scenarios rather than traditional debate, requiring teams to present sound moral reasoning to a panel of judges.
Students Holiness Mhlanga, Marvin Brown, Alastair Park, Christian Smith, and Jaslynn Vorachith have worked together since September 2025, with each team member making crucial contributions to this achievement. Their dedication to research, rhetorical strategy, historical context, ethical reasoning, and collaborative teamwork led them to success at the tournament and brought home the victory for JCSU.
