Queens University Welcomes Monks On Campus Walking For Peace

Today, Queens University of Charlotte had the opportunity to experience a meaningful national moment close to home. As part of a Walk for Peace from Fort Worth, Texas, to Washington, D.C., a group of Buddhist monks passed through campus and paused at Harris Admissions House.

Students, faculty, staff, neighbors, and local elementary school children gathered along the sidewalks to quietly reflect and connect. Experiences like this reflect Queens’ commitment to fostering understanding across cultures, beliefs, and perspectives — preparing students to engage thoughtfully with the world.

The “Walk for Peace” in the USA involves a group of Vietnamese Buddhist monks walking from Texas to Washington, D.C. (started Oct 2025, ends Feb 2026) to promote unity, compassion, mindfulness, and inner peace, attracting huge crowds and millions of online followers by sharing messages of kindness and their peaceful journey, accompanied by a rescue dog named Aloka, with a goal of potentially recognizing Buddha’s birthday as a federal holiday.Â
