Charlotte Track & Field Star Chin-Loy Raymond Earns American Women’s Athlete Of The Week

Junior thrower Chin-Loy Raymond was named the American Women’s Field Athlete of Week by the Conference, the league office announced on Tuesday (Feb. 3) afternoon.

A transfer from Iowa Western CC, the Coral Springs, Fla. native is the first Niner to be named an American Weekly Honor recipient this season and is off to a stellar start in her first season with the Green and White. Raymond earned this week’s nod thanks to her efforts at the Bob Pollock Invitational on Jan. 30-31 in the shot put and weight throw, where she set new personal bests and program top 10s in both events.

In the shot put, Raymond put together an effort of 15.91m (52’2.50″), which broke her previous best of 15.37m (50’5.25″) from January’s Virginia Tech Invitational and moved her from third all-time in the Charlotte indoor record books to second. It also ranks first in the American Conference standings for the season and 38th nationally among Division I.

Raymond also entered the program top 10 in the indoor weight throw as well, climbing to ninth following a 17.60m (57’9″) attempt in Clemson, S.C. to overtake her previous best of 17.55m (57’7″), similarly set at the Virginia Tech Invitational back on Jan. 16-17. Raymond’s new mark places her sixth in the Conference standings for the indoor season so far.

The Charlotte Track & Field team’s next outing will be a doubleheader across Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7 that will see athletes head to both Blacksburg, Va. for the Doc Hale Invitational and to Winston-Salem, N.C. for the Camel City Invitational.
